Farm News of the Week

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has lots and lots of herbs available! We have both plants in gallon pots, and fresh-cut harvested herbs for those who may not have a good garden place for the plants. You can order a large amount of fresh-cut herbs to liven up your summer cooking… or a giant amount to dehydrate and save for winter. You can even order a beautiful large hanging herb garden which would be a very special gift.

Perennials blooming now include: balloon flower, daylilies, coneflowers (in limited supply), Dianthus and Gaura continuing from early spring, coral bells, salvia, sedums, Stokes asters, Tradescantia, and Yarrows. The Shasta daisies are about to begin blooming any minute now. Of course the plants which have gone out of bloom are also still available for purchase, but you should always consider the time of bloom when purchasing perennial plants.

All the various types of ferns look great too, and will do well in the shady garden next to their more colorful friends. I have added a couple of new flowering hanging baskets, and also brought back some old favorites.

(Clockwise from upper left) Large Red Daylily, Stokes Aster, Fresh-Cut English Thyme, and Petunia Hanging Basket.

From Sow’s Ear Piggery:
New cut available! Fresh pork side aka belly. Make your own bacon or use in a gourmet dinner. We also have our usual outdoor choices of ribs, chops, and shoulder, as well as ground pork and country sausage. All pork is from free-range non-GMO, non-soy, non-corn pigs.

Frontier Family Farm has added blueberries and baby Bok Choi.

From Botanical Harmony:
Wild harvested flowers and herbs are at a beautiful abundance so far this year! Wild roses like we haven’t seen in a long time and so much Elder!

Right now we have fresh batches of our facial toners, clay masques and a NEW spray deodorant with herbal infused Witch Hazel and deodorizing magnesium! It is wonderful for strappy clothes!

Our organic sugar scrubs are ON SALE! They are perfect for bath, shower, shaving, and facial care! Organic sugar crystals and organic sunflower oil, just choose from our available scents.

Farm News of the Week

From Molly Cornelison of Kountry Vittles:
First I must apologize, I put up the wrong picture for the Personal Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cheesecakes; the issue has been fixed. It was a busy week in my little bakery with birthdays, graduations, and the end of the school year. Lots of Fresh Strawberry Pies were ordered and delivered, and I must say the berries are looking wonderful. Chocolate Meringue Pie is another popular pie during this time of the year as well. I will soon be replenishing my supply of fresh blueberries, so I should soon have plenty for some tasty Blueberry Cobblers.

(L to R) Fresh Strawberry Pie and Blueberry Cobbler.

Knottynuffacres has added Artisan Bread Loaf.

Eat seasonally! We have lots of delicious spring vegetables available right now! Try something new, and please post your favorite recipes to the Recipe section of the website. Thank you for helping us all eat more healthy and local.

Botanical Harmony Farm has added several new products in the category of “Bath and Beauty.”

(L to R) Bug Away, Bath Salt

Welcome more spring vegetables from Flying S Farm.

(L to R)‘Little Gem’ Small Head Cabbage, Broccoli Head.

Don’t forget to stock up this week for your Memorial Day celebration! We would like to thank our present and former service personnel for all their sacrifices. Freedom is NOT free!

Farm News of the Week

From Molly Cornelison of Kountry Vittles:
With the beautiful but hot weather we have been having as of late my nice homemade chilled pies have been very popular and refreshing. Whether it be a Coconut Cream, a Chocolate Meringue, or the flavorful Fresh Strawberry Pie. For those wanting a reason to enjoy a good scoop of ice cream, there is always the Fudgy Fudge Pie and the Blackberry Cobbler. I will be adding cupcake sized cheesecakes to the market this week as well. I will be offering these in plain, chocolate or Chocolate covered Strawberry.

(Clockwise from upper left) Coconut Cream Pie, Chocolate Meringue Pie, Blackberry Cobbler, Personal Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cheesecakes.

News from Sow’s Ear Piggery:
If you have yet to fire up your grill or smoker, the upcoming Memorial Day holiday is the perfect opportunity. The only question is, will it be ribs, chops, or burgers? We have you covered. Enjoy our pasture-raised, non-GMO, non-soy pork. And we would like to take this opportunity to thank our service men and women for their sacrifice and valor.

(L to R) Ribs, chops, and ground pork.

Eat seasonally! We have lots of delicious spring vegetables available right now! Try something new, and please post your favorite recipes to the Recipe section of the website. Thank you for he’ping us all eat more healthy and local.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse still has several varieties of large, strong tomato plants and several “California Wonder” green bell pepper plants, but this will be the last week they will be available. (Both are much larger and stronger than their market pictures.) We also have a few large, beautiful blooming hanging baskets which would love a sunny or partly sunny spot in your yard. The late spring blooming perennial plants are in full flower now: gorgeous astilbes in several colors, coral bells having several colors of foliage, salvia’s stately spikes, and tradescantia’s strange triangular flowers. At the same time, the spring coreopsis, pincushion flowers, and dianthus still add their vibrant colors to the greenhouse, and summer’s daylilies are preparing to burst forth in bloom. We are excited to add fresh-cut herbs to the market this week – several mints, some thymes, and a couple of others. Don’t forget about our Rex begonias and foliage hanging baskets, which will brighten your porch or patio this summer.

(Clockwise from upper left): Tomato plant ‘Celebrity’, Calibrachoa Hanging Basket, Orange Mint, Astilbe Silver Pink.

News from Andra at Sow’s Ear Piggery:
Sow’s Ear Piggery this week offers select pork chops from a pure American Guinea Hog pig. Meat from this pastured-raised pig is noticeably darker red in color, and the natural pork flavor will be richer. Also, because of the breed and age of the pig, the chops have a beautiful fat cap that helps keep meat moist when grilling or cooking and tastes delicious. Don’t be afraid of the extra pasture-raised pork fat, shown to be high in omega 3 fatty acid, the “good” fat. Raised with the same standards as all our pork, no antibiotics, hormones, or animal-based products. USDA inspected.

Bring a Friend to Market!!!

BRING A FRIEND TO MARKET THIS WEEK!!

We have a HUGE market this week – huger (if that’s a word!) than last week’s huge market!!! This week would be a great time to introduce someone to our products by bringing your friend to market when you pick up your order. Plan to come a little early (say around 4:00) and hang out with us for a little while. Amy Rae from Solace Farm will be on hand to chat, as well as Michael Raines from Frontier Family Farm and Linda Reed from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse. These farmers, and any others who care to join us, will have extra items for sale on a walk-up basis. And of course your friends can look over the quality of any of the items which were ordered.

Every week we have new items added to the market listings, and we’ve also had several new farmers join us in the last few months. Now we need new customers to enjoy all these fantastic fresh local farm products!

Our market is usually pretty much finished by 5:00, so “the early bird catches the worm.” Thank you for your fantastic orders, and see you and your friends on Thursday!

Farm News of the Week

Welcome this week to Full Circle Candles from Monteagle. From the farm description:
Owner Debbie Blinder loved burning candles in the home but realized the candles she bought had bad elements that effected her and her family’s health, such as cheap fragrances, color dyes, and lead wicks. She decided to experiment, creating a healthier candle for her home and before she knew it, her handmade candles were being sold at craft fairs, farmers’ markets and local stores.

All of Full Circle Candles are made with much detail and positive energy. Debbie loves to give a special name to each candle and adds a special, positive and fun charm for the icing on the cake. All the candles are made with soy wax (and we do have beeswax candles too!) All fragrances used are GMO, Dye, Phthalate and Animal Cruelty Free. Many fragrances are also infused with essential oils. They will burn even and smell amazing for your home. Like aromatherapy!

These candles carry much detail, care and love in them. Full Circle also gives back monthly to environmental organizations. Enjoy your candles!!

(L to R) Honeysuckle Jasmine Candle, Harry Potter Gift Box Candle

Welcome also to Cindy’s Suds from Manchester. Look for her liquid laundry soap with and without essential oil scent.

I will even be glad to deliver your purchase of $25 or more on Saturday if you prefer not to keep it for several days.
