This week I have the sad task of telling you that Kountry Vittles has been permanently closed. Molly is suffering serious health problems and can no longer continue her baking business. Please pray for a restoration of health and for patience while she undergoes necessary procedures. Also pray for the skill of her doctors, and for strength and patience for her husband and son to walk this path with her.

If you would like to help with her mounting medical bills, there is a donation account in the name of Bonita Underwood (Bonita is Molly’s daughter) at First National Bank of Middle Tennessee. If you want to donate in person there are branches in Morrison, McMinnville, Viola, Murfreesboro, and Woodbury. She also has PayPal: @bunderwood90 and Cashapp: $BonitaUnderwood if you can’t get to one of the branches. Anything donated through those apps will go directly to the bank account for Molly. If you’re not able to donate just please say a prayer for her. It’s going to be a long hard road for her. Thank you.

From Dogwood Valley Greenhouse:
Houseplant lovers and giftgivers! Take a look at the Houseplant category this week! Dogwood Valley Greenhouse now has available a few pink Christmas cacti – or actually Thanksgiving cacti. There will be a few more pink ones available each of the next couple of weeks, as they come into bloom. I also may have one or two each white and red, not enough to make available. But if you prefer one of those colors, please let me know in the comments. First come first served, because I don’t have many of either white or red.

I have also added five new African violets to the listings. I’ve been waiting a whole year to do this, ever since I selected and ordered the leaves last fall. These guys are gorgeous! The plants may be a little small right now, but each one I sell will have several blooms and buds coming. Give them a nice light place (sunny south windowsill in the winter, or better yet, 14 hours of fluorescent light, about 18 inches above the plant), don’t overwater them, and they will bloom beautifully for you! Please note that I’ve included a couple of smaller-growing (miniature and semi-mini) plants in this new group. I don’t have many of these new varieties yet, but there will be more on the market as they grow. Your old favorites will also still be available from time to time, as their bloom cycle allows.

I’m also still taking orders for beautiful live Christmas wreaths and kissing balls. Get yours now before I run out of materials!

From Carter of CS3 Farm:
We have some delicious romaine lettuce, wildfire (red) lettuce, hakurei turnips, Siberian kale, and American spinach.

Our locally grown lettuce has Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and a host of minerals (including Magnesium, Manganese, Folate, and Potassium), as well as antioxidants, and it is delicious!

Turnips are known for high nutrient count and low calorie density. If you haven’t tried them cubed and soaked in an herbal vinegar and sautéed, or roasted with potatoes, kohlrabi, or beets in olive oil and drizzled with herbal honey, you are missing out!

Kale is touted as an excellent source of vitamins A, C, and K. It also provides a lot of of B vitamins, calcium, copper, fiber, iron, manganese, vitamin E, and it is also rich in antioxidants. It is a filling food but very low in calories and has no fat.

Spinach is suitable for canning, freezing, and eating fresh. It is extremely nutrient rich, with calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, niacin, zinc, Vitamin A, folate, dietary fiber, and protein.

A very short-season item is still available: apple cider. Get yours while we still have some.

We have more white egg turnips, chives, and both farmed and foraged salad greens and farmed and foraged cooking greens.

Our white egg turnips are (as the name implies) about the size of an egg. Turnips are known for high nutrient count and low calorie density. If you haven’t tried them cubed and soaked in an herbal vinegar and sautéed, or roasted with potatoes, kohlrabi, or beets in olive oil and drizzled with herbal honey, you are missing out!

Check out our chives for a nutritious and delicious onion flavor for omelettes, salads, or dinner meals. They add just the right kick!

Tired of a lettuce-only salad? Our Farmed and Foraged greens are a blend of hand-picked seasonal tame & wild hybrid salad complement or substitute. it’s awesome on sandwiches, and it is quite delicious topping a burger or other sandwich or cooking like spinach or kale. It’s highly nutritious and super fresh! Contents are seasonal – see the description in the market or text/email us for the current blend (or addition/omission requests).

Petalland has added Jerusalem artichokes to our winter vegetable offerings. For those who don’t know (like me), the internet says, “Sunchokes look a little bit like large knobs of ginger. However, a Jerusalem artichoke taste is slightly nutty and savory—like a cross between an artichoke heart and the best potato you’ve ever had.” Uncommon in supermarkets, we are pleased to add them to our listings.

From Carter of CS3 Farm:
We are still in transition, living in a 350 sq.ft. RV on the farm, but we do have some vegetables growing. Check out our arugula, white egg turnips, chives, and farmed and foraged greens as we ease back into providing delicious and nutritious vegetables to the market!

We have a blend of traditional and Wild Rocket Arugula growing, and it is mouth-watering good! Add it to salads, sandwiches, or cooked dishes. Your taste buds will thank you!
