Shampoo Bar - Goat Milk, Rosemary Citrus Plain BarGrower: Solace Farm
Price: $7.00 ( 1 bar )Available (Exact): 4
An invigorating citrus-herbal blend of rosemary, orange, lime & grapefruit essential oils.
This 4 oz square bar comes wrapped in handcut brown paper.
Why use a shampoo bar? Partly to avoid all those disturbing ingredients in commercial shampoo! Then wouldn’t any nice, handmade bar soap work? Well, I’ve tried it, with my own goat milk soap, and it was not what I wanted! Hair, and even more importantly our scalp, needs ultra-moisturizing treatment, and this bar is specially made to do that. Hair gets oily because we wash off all our natural oils, prompting the scalp to make more. But that makes our hair oily, so we wash it again, further stripping our scalp of natural protective oils... And because we’re stripping everything off our hair - and scalp - we need a conditioner to make it soft and smooth and healthy (everything the natural oils were trying to do, incidentally). Then, since we used a heavy conditioner, our hair is weighed-down and needs washing...
Or, we can both clean and condition with a natural soap that gets out dirt and oils but doesn’t strip our hair, and simultaneously conditions it - and our scalp - with the naturally-occurring glycerin, as well as the goat milk and vitamin-rich egg yolks. Treating the scalp well is so important to healthy hair - if your skin is nourished and moisturized, it doesn’t need to produce more oils, and so your hair actually stays clean longer, and the whole cycle is healthier for hair and skin!
This luxurious bar soap contains moisturizing olive, avocado and almond oils, and lots of castor oil which is great for hair, and local lard from pastured, non-GMO-fed pigs from Cove Creek Farm, hand-rendered here at Solace Farm, to give the shampoo stability and firmness. I also use my goats milk and some of my duck egg yolks for even more moisturizing. This bar doubles as a spectacular facial cleanser, in addition to being an amazingly conditioning shampoo, definitely the most moisturizing soap I've ever made.
When using as shampoo, follow with an apple cider vinegar rinse (I use a small spritzer bottle) if you have harder water, and if you have soft water you probably don’t need anything, and there's no need for conditioner, although I sometimes use a teeny bit of diluted commercial organic conditioner as a leave-in detangler for my kids hair. Since I started making and using bar shampoo 10 years ago, this is all I use and I love it!

Shampoo Bar - Goat Milk, Unscented Tree of LifeGrower: Solace Farm
Price: $7.00 ( 1 bar )Available (Exact): 6
This is my exact same shampoo bar recipe, but absolutely fragrance-free. This bar is molded in the shape of a branching Tree of Life.
NOTE: This shampoo bar uses local non-GMO lard from Pig Mountain farm, and I have just started making it with local grass-fed beef tallow from Dayspring Farm as well - the tallow results in a slightly harder bar that will last longer in your shower! I do have a vegetarian bar on request, just send me an email about substituting that one.

Shasta Daisy PlantGrower: Dogwood Valley Greenhouse
Price: $8.50 ( trade gallon pot )Available (Estimated): 8
Shasta Daisies are all-time favorites for the perennial border. The cheery flowers begin to appear in late spring and continue on for several months if faithfully deadheaded. Shastas mix so effortlessly with other perennials that no garden should be without them! This is a plant that is easily grown in average, well-drained soils in full sun. It's a good cut flower, attracts butterflies, is suitable for dried flowers, and serves as a butterfly nectar sources. In spring, remove all dead foliage; and cut back to basal foliage in fall. Cuttings can be done in summer; and division can be done in the spring and is recommended every 2-3 years. Fertilize with Holly-tone or a water soluble fertilizer as recommended.

Soap - Goat Milk & Lard, Eucalyptus Mint Dragonfly RectangleGrower: Solace Farm
Price: $4.00 ( 4 oz bar rectangle )Available (Exact): 3
This 4 oz rectangle bar has a dragonfly molded on the front, either plain cream-colored soap, or I can paint it green with natural mica color, add a note in a "Note to Grower" at checkout, if you would like it painted.
The herbal scent of Eucalyptus essential oil paired with the spicy fragrance of Peppermint essential oil is a classic, and one of my most popular soap scents. Made with my own hand-milked goat milk, local lard from a friend's sustainable small farm that I render myself, and a little coconut oil and of course lye - that's it!
I hand-make all my soap in small batches, 6 to 36 bars at a time. If you have used a good handmade soap before, you know that it is a completely different creature than commercial soap, which can be so drying! When soap is made by hand, the chemical reaction of oils with a lye solution forms the substances soap and glycerin. A typical bar of handmade soap is roughly 1/3 glycerin! This is a humectant, meaning it pulls water from the air - when on your skin, it literally moisturizes your skin by attracting water to it. In commercial soaps, the glycerin is distilled and removed, and later sold back to you in a lotion, but in the "real thing", it is all one package. I used to use lotions and moisturizers a lot, especially in the winter, but I virtually never use them anymore, other than some of my tallow body balm on my hands occasionally, and my lip balm or lip blush all year-round!

I used to use lotions and moisturizers a lot, especially in the winter, but I virtually never use them anymore, other than some of my tallow body balm on my hands occasionally, and my lip balm or lip blush all year-round!

Soap - Goat Milk & Lard, Eucalyptus Mint Square BarGrower: Solace Farm
Price: $4.00 ( 4 oz bar )Available (Exact): 4
This handmade local lard & goat milk bar has crushed mint leaves in the soap, along with hand-rendered lard from pastured, non-GMO-fed pigs raised right here in either Altamont or Tracy City, rendered by me here at SFH.
(Check out my FAQ section at the bottom of the page for why there is lye in soap). I love this soap, in fact I used to make this as a regular, non-goat milk soap, but then made a batch for a custom order and loved it so much I decided to convert my lard soaps to goat milk-lard soaps. It is really moisturizing, cleans well with no residue, and has a great lather! I also add a little of my homegrown mint to this soap for a bit of exfoliation.
This soap is available in a variety of options - a plain square bar or 3 different molded designs of a dragonfly. The dragonfly is available in either the unadorned, mint-flecked version or with mica-based color accents of green dragonfly and brown cattail, depending on the design (see photos and other listings for the different designs). The oval bar is approximately 5 oz, the rectangle is approximately 4 oz, and the round bar is approximately 3.5 oz.
Price: $4.00 ( 3.5 oz bar )Available (Estimated): 6
A unique, striking blend of herbal lavender and earthy patchouli essential oils, with a touch of the unmistakable licorice-scent of anise oil - this is one of my favorites, and a frequent comment upon smelling this is “Oooh, I never liked patchouli before, but this! I love this!” This scent is great for men or women, it’s a little spicy, a little dark, and a little sweet.

Soap - Goat Milk, Ginger, Lime, & Lavender EO Goat KidGrower: Solace Farm
Price: $7.50 ( One 5-6 oz bar )Available (Exact): 4
This adorable bar of a goat kid playing in a meadow has a citrus and herbal scent, with my own blend of ginger, lime and lavender essential oils. Goat milk is renowned for the luxurious qualities it gives soap, particularly gentle exfoliating and excellent moisturizing. I hand-milk my goats Sophia, Snowpea, and Elvira, and use the rich milk as well as olive and coconut oils, almond, castor, and avocado oils and shea butter to make this wonderful soap. I don't use Palm oil as many soapmakers do - while it itself is a useful oil, I can't condone the harmful cultivation practices used to produce it, and find I don't need it - this soap is wonderful without it! It is so moisturizing and good for your skin, with extra vitamins and nutrients from the goat milk, as well as the luxurious oils I use. Soap - Goat Milk, Unscented Fragrance-Free, "GOAT MILK" BarGrower: Solace Farm
Price: $5.50 ( 4 oz bar )Available (Estimated): 5
A completely unscented, fragrance-free bar of luxurious goat milk soap, handmade here at Solace Farm Homestead from scratch - I even milk the goats by hand. This soap is ideal for sensitive or allergy-prone skin - chemical fragrances are the #1 allergen in skin care, and I have to say, I was flabbergasted to learn recently that "unscented" commercial soap often uses fragrance to make it smell unscented. This is outrageous, and I surmise it's why you also find the term "fragrance-free" - because "unscented" may not actually be.
This soap is available in either a rectangular molded bar with the word "GOAT MILK" across the front (this listing), or a plain square bar (separate listing), both approximately 4 oz. The molded bar is packaged in a windowed brown kraft paper box. With its beautiful design, these soaps would make a great gift for any occasion, and are a wonderfully moisturizing option for daily use.
