Time to Order Fresh Local Farm Products!

Good morning!

The market is open as usual, and will remain open for your orders till Tuesday at 10 pm.

Summer has officially arrived, and the 4th of July is right around the corner. Plan ahead this week for the perfect meal to celebrate Independence Day.The beauty of the Locally Grown movement is that you know who is picking your farm products, where they’re grown or raised, and by whom! Did you know that by ordering on the locallygrown market, you are virtually assured of receiving the “cream of the crop” from each farmer? You will receive the best products picked and made with pride especially for YOU! You can’t get any fresher and higher quality than that! Thank you for supporting your local farmers and small businessmen and women.

Please be sure to read the section of the page entitled “Important Ordering and Pickup Information.”

The farmers and market managers would really appreciate your efforts to help spread the word about our fantastic market. What a great local resource for fresh, local farm products. Please pick up a few business cards to hand out to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Advertising is very expensive, and we want to use our slim market funds in a responsible manner.

Farm News of the Week

Triple B Farm is back this week. Check out our Crusader Coffee, roasted locally in Coffee County the week of delivery! 10% of all profits from our coffee sales goes to “A Soldier’s Child” foundation, a Tennessee charity to benefit the families of our fallen warriors. Not only are you getting the best coffee around, but you are giving to a cause right here at home. Also check out our herbs and teas. All the flowers and herbs in our teas were grown in our garden without chemical bug spray and chemical fertilizer.

(Clockwise from upper left) “Crusader” Coffee, Fresh Mint, Herbal Tea, Dried Rosemary.

Sow’s Ear Piggery offers natural pork products from heritage breed pigs. Choose from Ribs, Chops, Shoulder for pulled pork, and Ground Pork for burgers. We also have mild and spicy breakfast sausage available. Our pigs enjoy outdoor grazing and non-GMO feed. The meat is a dark pink to red color due to their natural grass-based diet. As the saying goes, You are what you eat. So eat the best!!

From Deb at Knottynuffacres:
My grandson arrived safely and is doing well. I hope to be home in another week or so.
I hope those who have bought my artisan bread loaves have enjoyed them. I plan to make a plain variety and also add rolls. I do plan to bring extra loaves to sell on market days. I may even bring a junior farmer with me.

From Nicole at Smirk Ice Cream:
Happy Sunday everyone! We hope you enjoyed your samples of Smirk Ice Cream on Thursday! We’d like to let you know that Smirk Fruit Sweetened Almond Milk Ice Cream is the only fruit sweetened almond milk ice cream anywhere, in fact, we are currently patent pending on our product. We will be shipping our ice cream nationwide starting next month, but everyone that orders through the Manchester Farmer’s Market can eliminate the expense of shipping by allowing us to deliver to you through this great venue! We hope you will give us a try and let us know what you think of our ice cream. Feel free to follow us on Facebook and/or email us at info@smirkicecream.com and check out our website at www.smirkicecream.com. Thanks again!

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has recently added several new items and brought back some old favorites. New on the market this week is Lemongrass, so useful in Asian cuisine. Lavender, Greek Oregano, Sage, and Basil also rejoin the herb plant lineup this week. There is no need to buy dried and bottled herbs from the grocery when you can get just about any herb fresh-cut on Thursday morning from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse.

The tall red Carnations are beginning a second bloom cycle, soon to be followed by the dwarf reds and several shades of pink within the next week or two. When they get back into full bloom, I will once again offer the “Garden in a Vase.” We have just one very special large Flame Violet hanging basket, whose beautiful bronze foliage and bright orange-red blooms would be perfect on your porch or patio this summer. And we have one very large beautiful “Hanging Herb Garden,” containing parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme, a wonderful gift for any chef or baker. The dwarf red reblooming daylily is also looking really good this week, although it’s in limited supply, and the tall double orange daylily will join it by the end of the weekend.

All the houseplants and out-of-bloom perennials are still available as well. Check my list and find something for that problem area or empty place in the garden. With over a hundred plants to select from, you’re sure to find that perfect one. And I’m always available by email if you have any problems or questions.

(L to R): Garden (“Common”) Sage, Hanging Herb Garden.
