Price: $7.00 ( each gallon pot )Available (Exact): 4
Dug this spring from a grove in my yard and potted in gallon pots. These are first-year plants, still small, and may not bloom next year.
This native shrub, American Elder or Sambucus canadensis, has been known for its delicious fruit (for use in jellies, pies or wine) since native American times. It has more recently been used in landscapes for its spectacular blossoms and dramatically colored berries. The Elderberry is also a fantastic wildlife habitat, providing both shelter for small animals and a healthy food source. Elderberries are both drought and cold-tolerant, adapt to almost any soil type and most drainage conditions and have few pests. They grow 6 to 12 feet high in an oval or rounded shape. The white flower clusters are generally 6 to 10 inches in diameter and are very showy with a nice fragrance. The fruit, which is pleasantly tart but high in vitamin C, is a smooth round berry measuring three-sixteenths-inch in diameter growing in broad flat clusters.

Pepper Plant - CayenneGrower: Dogwood Valley Greenhouse
Price: $3.00 ( quart pot )Available (Estimated): 3
The cayenne pepper is a type of Capsicum annuum. It is usually a moderately hot chili pepper used to flavor dishes. Cayenne peppers are a group of tapering, 10 to 25 cm long, generally skinny, mostly red-colored peppers, often with a curved tip and somewhat rippled skin, which hang from the bush as opposed to growing upright. Most varieties are generally rated at 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville units.
The fruits are generally dried and ground to make the powdered spice of the same name, although cayenne powder may be a blend of different types of peppers, quite often not containing cayenne peppers, and may or may not contain the seeds.
Cayenne is used in cooking spicy dishes either as a powder or in its whole form. It is also used as an herbal supplement.

Pepper plant - Paprika AlmaGrower: Cheryls Neighborhood Garden
Price: $3.00 ( 3 plants per container )Available (Estimated): 12
Paprika Alma Pepper plants:
This years Paprika Alma plants are 3-4 inches and have good roots, are growing with the rains and sun.
These plants are germinated from heirloom saved seeds and are true-type from the parent plant. There is a picture of the Paprika peppers in my photo album. They have a thick flesh of 1/4 forming a cream colored pepper to start and as the season progresses, the peppers turn to orange/orange-red. When they are bright orange-red it's time to harvest.
Saving seeds to germinate for next years crop:
Wash them off, remove the stem and seeds. If you want to save seeds for propagation, now is the time to do so.
How to Make your own Paprika:
After washing the ripe dried/dehydrated peppers, remove the seeds and stems. Slice them in a ring 1/4-1/2 inch. I lay mine on a pizza screen and turn on the convection oven to the lowest setting, my oven setting is 170 degrees. Lower is probably better. If you have a dehydrator you can use it.
Be sure to monitor them so they don't over cook.
When they are still pliable, not too crispy. Let them cool. When they are cool I grind them to a fine powder in a coffee grinder/spice grinder. Store in dark, cool area for later use.
Thank you,
Cheryls Neighborhood Garden
Enjoy! CNG/MLG

Tomato Plant - Big BeefGrower: Valley View Farm and Garden
Price: $3.00 ( each )Available (Exact): 40
For years gardeners wanted a large, beefsteak-type tomato that was delicious, early to bear, and highly disease resistant. Finally in 1994 those wishes came true with Big Beef. The large fruit has old-time tomato flavor and the vines are resistant to many of the problems that can discourage gardeners. The fruit is borne on vigorous, indeterminate vines from summer until frost. Compared to other beefsteak types, Big Beef is early and will set fruit reliably even in cool, wet weather. We harvest dozens of tomatoes from each plant in our Alabama test garden, where the harvest season lasts two full months and the growing conditions are very good. It grows well throughout the country, earning it an All America Selections designation in 1994; it has since grown to be a national favorite. Vines grow long, so give the plant the support of a tall cage or stake.

Price: $3.00 ( quart pot )Available (Estimated): 1
The Red Brandywine tomato plant is a Pennsylvania Amish heirloom dating to 1885, with large potato-leaved foliage. It bears large scarlet beefsteak-shaped fruit, popularly considered among the best tasting available. Even when fully ripe, the tomato can have green shoulders near the stem.
Brandywine tomatoes can bear fruit up to 1.5 lbs (0.7 kg), requiring 80 to 100 days to reach maturity, making it among the slowest maturing varieties of common tomato cultivars. Brandywine has been described as having a "great tomatoey flavor", (others have called it a beautifully sweet tomato that is offset by a wonderful acidity), leading to heavy usage despite the original cultivar's relatively low yield per plant.
