Good morning!
This is just a friendly reminder to place your order online for this week. Market ordering will close tonight at 10 pm. Please don’t forget to place your order soon! But if you do forget to order, give me (Linda) a call Wednesday morning. I will most likely be able to get hold of the farmers and place a late order for you.
Remember to hit that last “submit” button. I really dislike disappointing a customer who comes to market, only to find no order in their name because they didn’t hit the last button. When your order is placed, you will receive an email confirmation. If for any reason you fail to receive this confirmation, please contact Linda as soon as you realize it’s missing.
Also please go to our Facebook page and like, comment, and share this week’s post. Facebook isn’t allowing me to post on multiple sites, or sometimes post multiple photos. So please help us spread the word. Surveys indicate that word of mouth is the most effective form of advertisement. Please help us advertise our fantastic growing market!
Thank you, and see you on Thursday!

Farm News of the Week
Please be sure you notice the change of banner over these farm names!
Deb Wittig of Knottynuffacres will have her bread, both plain and with quinoa, flaxseed, and sesame; and eggs listed on the market once more this week.
Weaver Farms meats have returned to the market, but you already know that from my midweek announcement.
Andra Martens writes:
Sow’s Ear Piggery is happy to return to the market this week. If you haven’t ordered in a while, please check out our newly added cuts: 1"-thick chops, tenderized cutlets, tenderloin, and Boston Butt.
From Linda of Dogwood Valley Greenhouse:
Yes, Dogwood Valley Greenhouse surely did flood this past weekend! We are used to some water in our driveway, because it runs in part alongside a seasonal creek. On occasion we have even been unable to get out of our driveway, but only a couple of other times in the past 30+ years have we had more than a foot of water. The poor daffodils were at the outer bounds of the flooded area, and I spent all the good weather this week removing dirt, debris, and sticks from among their leaves. Only a handful of blooms were damaged, and everything popped right back up as soon as the sun came out. There are still a lot of buds there, and with the cooler weather forecast for the next several days, I’m sure to be able to make bouquets for the Mar 6 delivery. At the rate the weather is staying cool, we might even have some for Mar 13. If you haven’t ordered a bouquet yet, you really should do so this week!
We are also swinging into bloom season in the greenhouse. My workers and I set up a whole greenhouse this week, making it much easier to care for these beauties as they come into bloom. Watch your sequence of bloom in your perennial borders; if you don’t have anything blooming right now, consider adding a few early beauties. Currently blooming: pulmonaria and primrose; with woodland phlox and pincushion plant running close behind. All the colors of coral bells are growing vigorously, and if planted out now, will bloom in your garden within the month.
Hope Harrison of Hope for Health is still on “vacation” after the birth of her child.
Please remember to send us your comments about your favorite products or farms, for publication in a future newsletter. The best advertising is always word of mouth, and our farmers really appreciate your encouragement.
Important Ordering and Pickup Information
Ordering will be open until TUESDAY at 10 pm, and your order will be available for pickup on THURSDAY between 4:00 and 5:30 at the pavilion across from Manchester City Schools administration building, 215 East Fort Street, Manchester.
We can also deliver your order to your home (or other location) on FRIDAY afternoon for a small fee, if it’s more convenient for you. We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible. Wonderful local products are available for ordering from the comfort of your own computer.
More new farmers are considering joining our market, if they can expect enough sales to help pay their transportation costs. Please help us grow the market by sharing this e-mail with your friends and inviting them to give us a try. And if you haven’t ordered from Manchester Locally Grown for a while, please check out our wide variety of offerings this week. Also please let us know if we can improve our selection or scheduling in any way to better suit your needs.

Farm News of the Week
Some of you discovered the new item on the market last week, the one that wasn’t posted yet when I wrote the newsletter. So here’s the “news”, a little late: Michael Raines of Frontier Family Farm has added a 5 inch round pan of Cornbread.
Deb Wittig of Knottynuffacres will be off the market for a few more weeks.
Weaver Farms meats are unavailable this week.
Hope for Health products will be off the market for a few more weeks.
You need some cheering up during this ongoing dreary, wet weather! Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has just the thing to brighten your week, your home, your desk – bouquets of beautiful yellow-and-white daffodils. Each vase contains more than a dozen beautiful blooms and is tied with a colorful florist bow. This cool, cloudy weather has prolonged the bloom season of the daffodils, and as of this week, we are anticipating two more weeks of daffodils.
Does your garden need some early spring color? The pulmonaria and several colors of primrose are already beautiful. All these will do best in a spot where they will be in good shade during our hot Tennessee summers. They will combine well with ferns and hostas, with the pulmonaria’s variegated foliage adding summer interest as well.

Farm News of the Week
It’s spring, or at least the daffodils at Dogwood Valley Greenhouse think it is. I believe I’ve seen some red, red robins bobbin’ around among them too, but I’m sorry that I can’t add any of those to this year’s bouquets. I will have a limited number of daffodil bouquets available this week, and will do my best to fill all orders. But as always, the number of blooms available on Tuesdays is very weather-dependent. I’m actually thankful for the cooler weather, as 40’s and 50’s will prolong bloom a lot better than 60’s and 70’s. I’m hoping to have blooms for three weeks, so I suggest that you order early and often. If there are any unfilled orders this week, I will ask if you want me to fill your order next week instead. Enjoy this early breath of spring, as they smell so sweet inside your home!
You know spring is almost here when you see the primroses, pulmonarias, and woodland phlox beginning to show their colors. To tell the truth, these guys are jumping the gun just a wee bit, but we’re very happy to be able to add them back to the market. You know we’re still likely to get an ice storm sometime during February. Be sure to cover these beauties with a bedsheet or move to an unheated garage if the weather turns cold and/or nasty.
(L to R, top) Daffodils in the garden and in the vases.
(L to R, bottom) Pulmonaria, Primrose, and Woodland Phlox.
Deb Wittig of Knottynuffacres will be off the market for a few more weeks.
The pork products from Sow’s Ear Piggery will be unavailable this week, but Andra hopes to return next week.
Weaver Farms meats are unavailable this week only.
Hope for Health products will be off the market for a few more weeks.
I have enjoyed many products from this market, but there are two I’d like to comment on: portobello mushrooms from Frontier Family Farms and elbows and knees from Triple T Farm.
The mushrooms are over the top fresh and delicious. I stuffed them with tuna, 3 cheeses, and herbs. My dad deemed the dish “gourmet”.
The knees and elbows from Triple T make superior bone broth. Easy to make, just add water, herbs, and spices and let it simmer for a few to several days. Use it as a soup base, to make gravy, or better yet cook a Triple T roast in it. Nutritious and delicious, without a doubt!
~ Dianna de las Casas
We would like to invite you to send us comments about the market products you have tried. I will try to print them in the next issue of the newsletter.

(L to R) Baby Portobello Mushrooms from Frontier Family Farms; Parsley Plants from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse.
Michael Raines surprised me with a $3 bag of unknown goodies. Baby Bella mushrooms! Sliced raw on a salad, the most flavorful mushrooms I have ever had! I sliced some up and sauteed with chopped onion and lard for topping of hamburger. Delicious! Get them while you can!
