Astilbe Plant - Chocolate FoliageGrower: Dogwood Valley Greenhouse
Price: $8.00 ( Gallon pot )Available (Exact): 1
Astilbes are long-blooming plume-like flowers, held above airy foliage. Astilbes are one of the easiest perennial flowers to grow, but they give a high return. Virtually pest free, they can light up the shade garden. Beautiful pink feathery flowers.
This variety is exquisite and dramatic, the very dark purple-brown, serrated foliage and pale pinkish white plumes commanding attention in the landscape. A magnificent accent for moist areas, such as around pools and water features. More sun tolerant than other varieties of astilbe, but does best in a shaded to dappled shade setting. An herbaceous perennial.

Balloon Flower Plant, Blue -TallerGrower: Dogwood Valley Greenhouse
Price: $8.00 ( gallon pot )Available (Exact): 0
This heavy bloomer gets its name from the way each flower bud swells before its starry petals unfold. Balloon flowers are one of the easiest perennials you'll ever grow, and they bloom in profusion in mid to late summer, when many other perennials are beginning to fade.
These plants are taller than the other variety offered, and bear 2- to 3-inch cuplike blossoms. Balloon flowers are a cottage garden standard, excellent for cutting. To make the flowers last in the vase, sear the stems with a match or candle flame immediately after cutting.
They thrive in full sun or light shade in well-drained garden soil. They appreciate a little afternoon shade in zones 7-8. You won't find a more carefree perennial! Just work a little slow-release fertilizer into the soil in spring, and pick off the flowers as they fade to encourage more blooms. Moderate drought conditions aren't a problem, but it helps to water the plants deeply when the soil dries out too much or if drought conditions persist. Balloon flowers are seldom bothered by insects, and they are very cold-hardy.
Plan the plant's position carefully and mark it to avoid weeding it out in early spring, for spring growth is late to appear.

Cactus, Nopal PaddleGrower: Cheryls Neighborhood Garden
Price: $3.00 ( (1) - 3 to 4 inch cactus - cleaned and packaged )Available (Exact): 4
Nopal - cactus:
I have homegrown young Nopales (prickly pear cactus) paddles. They are young and tender without all the prickles. They can be scraped off and the perimeter cut off and sliced into pieces and cooked until the mucilaginous properties are cooked out. They can also be cut up and juiced, but let them set in the refrigerator a day so they will blend into the rest of your juiced greens, they are rich and delicious and full of iron and vitamins.
I will clean the cacti, but below is a video, by Rick Bayless showing how to clean and cook them down to eat and use in other dishes. Have fun!

Also known as Alum Root, Heuchera is a beautiful genus of perennial foliage plants that will add a punch of color to any spot in your garden. This one is a larger plant at maturity than some of my others. Coral Bells begin blooming in midspring and continue through the summer months. We suggest dead-heading to prolong the bloom season. Will grow in any well-drained alkaline soil. They generally prefer part shade, especially in our heat. They are drought tolerant, very cold hardy (Zone 4), and many of them will even stay evergreen through the winter.
