Middle Tennessee Locally Grown is your online Farmers’ Market for local produce, baked goods, plants, and handcrafted items. You can order between 8 a.m. Sunday and 10:00 p.m Tuesday. Pickup is at one of three specified times and locations on Thursday afternoons:

• On Thursday afternoons between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. under the big pavilion on Fort Street with signs that say “Coffee County Farmers Market.” It’s across the street from the Manchester City Schools administration building, 215 East Fort St, Manchester.

• Or on Thursday afternoons between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. outside “Nature’s Elite”, which has moved to
  105 West Decherd St, Tullahoma, TN.

• Or on Thurday afternoons between 5:30 and 6:00 pm outside Martin Chapel Fellowship, at 110 Market Street, McMinnville, TN. It’s very close to the big water tower and the farmers’ market pavilion.

We can also deliver your order to your home in Coffee County on Thursdays, for a small fee, if it’s more convenient for you. If you prefer to utilize this service, please order it same as other items, indicating location.

The cayenne pepper is a type of Capsicum annuum. It is usually a moderately hot chili pepper used to flavor dishes. Cayenne peppers are a group of tapering, 10 to 25 cm long, generally skinny, mostly red-colored peppers, often with a curved tip and somewhat rippled skin, which hang from the bush as opposed to growing upright. Most varieties are generally rated at 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville units. The fruits are generally dried and ground to make the powdered spice of the same name, although cayenne powder may be a blend of different types of peppers, quite often not containing cayenne peppers, and may or may not contain the seeds. Cayenne is used in cooking spicy dishes either as a powder or in its whole form. It is also used as an herbal supplement.

Pepper plant - Paprika Alma

Paprika Alma Pepper plants: This years Paprika Alma plants are 3-4 inches and have good roots, are growing with the rains and sun. These plants are germinated from heirloom saved seeds and are true-type from the parent plant. There is a picture of the Paprika peppers in my photo album. They have a thick flesh of 1/4 forming a cream colored pepper to start and as the season progresses, the peppers turn to orange/orange-red. When they are bright orange-red it's time to harvest. Saving seeds to germinate for next years crop: Wash them off, remove the stem and seeds. If you want to save seeds for propagation, now is the time to do so. How to Make your own Paprika: After washing the ripe dried/dehydrated peppers, remove the seeds and stems. Slice them in a ring 1/4-1/2 inch. I lay mine on a pizza screen and turn on the convection oven to the lowest setting, my oven setting is 170 degrees. Lower is probably better. If you have a dehydrator you can use it. Be sure to monitor them so they don't over cook. When they are still pliable, not too crispy. Let them cool. When they are cool I grind them to a fine powder in a coffee grinder/spice grinder. Named for its banana-like shape, this variety bears sweet, mild banana peppers that mature from yellow, to orange, and then to crimson red. Plants fruit prolifically, easily producing up to 25 to 30 pods per plant. Banana peppers are great for frying and pickling, and are an excellent choice for making pepper rings for sandwiches. Extremely Hot! This pepper was cultivated in Northeast India and grown specifically for their heat and average between 1,000,000-2,500,000 on the Scoville scale. The Scoville scale measures the amount of capsaicin in a food. Capsaicin is the chemical compound that gives the burning sensation in peppers. For reference, they are about 10 times hotter than a jalapeno. Ghost peppers have many uses and are often used in Mexican cuisine to spice up dishes. Also used in Asian cuisines.

The 7 Pot Douglah, also known as the 7 Pod Douglah or Chocolate 7 Pod, is one of the rarest and hottest of the 7 pod strains. Currently the 3rd hottest pepper in the world behind #1 The Carolina Reaper and #2 Trinidad Moruga Scorpion. The Douglah is characterized by a dark brown/deep purple skin with many “pimples” over the surface. The pepper starts out green and matures to the dark color uniuqe to the Douglah. When you slice a fresh Douglah open, you will immediately see pools of liquid capsaicin oils that give this chili so much heat. The placenta is where most of the capsaicin oils are stored. Has excellent flavor fresh or as a powder.

This “thing” called the Carolina Reaper (AKA HP22B) is better described as the demon pepper child that was invented by man. There is nothing normal about this pepper because it was bred for heat and that it is. Oddly enough this pepper has excellent flavor as well. The Carolina Reaper pepper has a sweet and fruity flavor, that is right before the heat kicks in. Just one pepper has the pungency to spice up 100’s of dishes. It is perfect to add to chili, stir fry or marinates without affecting the flavor of the original dish.

Ghost Pepper - Bhut jolokia is a small chile typically of a red or orange color and can have bumpy or smooth skin. The peppers are about 2.5-3.5 inches long and 1 inch wide, about the size of your thumb. They are a thinner skin than many chiles, and (unlike jalapeños) contain only half of their capsaicin (the spicy stuff) in the vein or pith and the other half in the actual flesh of the fruit. That means there's no escaping the heat when cooking with these bad boys.
