Price: $10.00 ( 3.3 oz tube )

Scented with pure lavender essential oil, simple yet classic. These paperboard tubes actually hold noticeably more than the standard tubes (3.3 oz vs. 2.5), and look smaller to boot with a more compact shape. I love that these are completely recyclable or compostable, including the paper label I apply. These tubes simply push up from the bottom – it may take a bit of effort to get the contents sliding, but holding it for a minute first to warm it can help. My recipe is based on much research, and then trial-and-error tweaking, resulting in a formula that contains: Shea butter, beeswax, almond, castor & coconut oils, cocoa butter, arrowroot powder, kaolin & bentonite clays, and essential oils for both fragrance and, more importantly, anti-bacterial/anti-microbial power. This formula is the perfect balance of firmness (beeswax), meltable/glide-on-ness (oils), moisturizing (butters) and function (arrowroot & clay powders) – and there are no harmful ingredients - technically, you could ingest it and it wouldn't do any harm! I do not use any baking soda - my research found that many people are allergic to/irritated by the soda in natural deodorants, resulting in rashes. It appears that often users develop a sensitivity to the baking soda with continued use, so I have avoided it in all my deodorants, and use arrowroot starch instead.

Handmade lip balm, made with local beeswax (or candelilla wax for a vegan version), cocoa and shea butter, and castor and olive oils. Please choose a scent from the list below, if you don't I will choose for you :-) Beeswax gives this balm staying power, the butters are super-moisturizing, and castor oil is famed for being great for our skin, encouraging collagen and elastin production and helping penetrate and heal dry or damaged skin. It also adds a natural gloss and shine to this lip balm. If you have an allergy or sensitivity to any of these ingredients, just contact me for a custom-made lip balm, I can substitute any of the ingredients for you, and as mentioned, I can also make a vegan version with candelilla wax instead of the beeswax. I've been using my hand & body balm for years now and love it, and have always used it on my lips, but I had never poured lip tubes because I just hate the plastic! There's more plastic than product in those little tubes, and I just couldn't justify that – but then I found paper tubes!! They are the same size as the standard plastic tubes (both the .2 oz fill and the overall tube size), and simply push up from the bottom instead of the screw mechanism. The caps don't snap on quite as tightly as the plastic ones, but they usually fit on fairly snugly, I trade them around if one is loose until I find a good fit (and a customer has helpfully pointed out that a cap from a commercial lip tube will also work well). These tubes are entirely paperboard, with a waxed interior to prevent leaking, and I use paper labels, so they are entirely recyclable or compostable. I do pay a good bit more for these than the plastic tubes, but I really believe it's worth it. These are available in a large selection of fragrances as well as unscented and even custom blending, just send me a note with your request. These lip balms are scented with either essential oils or flavor oils (fragrance oils specifically for safe lip use), and I've added a very small amount of all-natural sweetener to enhance the fragrance. This sweetener is simply stevia and coconut oil, and I use just enough to give the scent a well-rounded aspect, similar to using salt in food – it just seems a little flat without it, but these are not candy-sweet, like many commercial lip balms. If you prefer a lip balm without sweetener, I can do that - but be aware that it may just seem a little "off" or flat in flavor/scent. Our senses of taste and smell are so intertwined, so much of the "scent" is actually the taste (the stevia), and without it the fragrance may not really "bloom" for you - but I'm happy to make that if you prefer. I do have a few flavors that are pre-sweetened with saccharin, and these will be clearly indicated in the selection drop-down box with “PSW”, and below in the individual descriptions. If possible, I use a natural essential oil, and second preference is an unsweetened flavor oil, so that I can add my own stevia sweetener, but some scents I can only find in pre-sweetened form. Current options are: Pure Essential Oils with a Touch of Stevia Sweetener: • Cedarwood & Bergamot – Woodsy and dark-citrus, these essential oils make a great lip balm for men • Citrus Blend - Grapefruit, Lime and Orange. I can customize which I use, just let me know. • Coffee Bean - Actual coffee EO, this is a light scent of true coffee - no vanilla, mocha, latte, etc. • Ginger Lime • Grapefruit • Lemon • Lime • Orange • Peppermint • Star Anise – This pure essential oil is classic black licorice, pure and simple. Essential Oil/Unsweetened Flavor Oil blend, with a Touch of Stevia Sweetener • Apple Sage - A blend of red & green apple flavors, with pure Dalmation Sage EO, this is my new favorite • Chocolate Mint – Chocolate flavor oil, with pure Peppermint essential oil, and a hint of stevia sweetener. This is a very light scent, no tingle/burning at all from the Peppermint, but the decadent fragrance comes through really nicely. If you'd prefer a stronger fragrance, message me for a custom blending. • Coconut Lime – Coconut flavor oil with pure essential oil of Lime for a tropical summery fragrance. • Mint Julep – Bourbon flavor oil, with pure Peppermint essential oil, a touch of unsweetened Honey flavor, and just enough stevia sweetener to round out the fragrance. This truly smells like the classic cocktail, I was impressed when I first tried the Bourbon oil, and is a great lip balm for the guys who don't want a typical “girly” lip balm. • Orange Vanilla - Vanilla flavor oil with real Orange EO, this is both warm and citrus, bright and mellow. Pre-Sweetened Flavor Oil with Saccharin • Root Beer – The classic lip balm, this truly smells just like root beer. Kids will love this one, as will anyone who grew up on this staple of the lip balm world. Stay tuned, I'm attempting to reformulate this one with essential oils for an all-natural root beer lip balm. • Dulce de Leche – This is the aroma of warm caramel, just delicious. • Mango And of course, I offer this lip balm in Unscented as well, either with or without sweetener. I also have this same balm available in a reusable, recyclable metal tin. It comes in 4 sizes, from a tiny pocket-size, all the way up to a 4 oz container, see my Body Balm listing for details.

Woodsy, herbal cedarwood and sage essential oils give this solid lotion a masculine fragrance. This all-natural balm is ultra-moisturizing with almond & olive oils and shea & cocoa butters, and always-local beeswax makes it last. This balm comes in a 1.5 oz metal tin with lid - please recycle it or return it to help keep my costs and material footprint (and therefore yours!) as low as possible. Why use a solid moisturizer? Solid lotion balm has no preservatives, unlike liquid lotions that require some kind of preservative to avoid harmful bacterial growth that can occur anytime water is added. Also, you get more for your money, since you’re not paying for all that water, preservatives, colors (even in white lotions often!), and unpronounceable, mystery ingredients. A solid lotion is also great for travel - it won’t leak and avoids the liquid restrictions for air travel. Lastly, it makes a great lip balm, for a fraction of the price of the tiny little tubes! If you’re interested in a moisturizer that’s even more sustainable, eco-friendly & bio-ethical, local, and hand-produced, check out our grassfed tallow balms and salves as well! Also, stop by our blog at SolaceFarmHomestead.com and browse the photo galleries to learn more about our farm, family, what we do, and how we do it here at Solace Farm.

If you’re curious about using grassfed tallow as a moisturizer, but are not sure about jumping in with my 90% tallow salve, this one is for you. It is 50% grassfed tallow hand-rendered from our Scottish Highland cattle, as well as my regular balm ingredients - olive and almond oils, shea and cocoa butters, and some beeswax to make it really last on your skin, even through moderate washing. I really love this balm for hands, feet, and baby bottoms, or anywhere else you want serious moisturizing - a little bit goes a long way, and it really lasts. The Peppermint $ Tea Tree in particular is great for healing, everything from diaper rash to mild skin irritations to eczema, according to some of my customers. Rather than listing a separate item for every available fragrance or essential oil blend, just choose from this list of currently available fragrances (EO denotes natural essential oils, otherwise it is a fragrance oil): Cedar & Sage EO Espresso Lavender-Vanilla EO Peppermint & Tea Tree EO Ginger, Lime & Lavender EO Tobacco & Bay Leaf Oatmeal, Milk & Honey Spiced Tobacco Lavender EO Grapefruit EO Rosemary & Bergamot EO

This is the simplest solid lotion I make, and in my opinion, the best. It is simply 90% our own grassfed Scottish Highland tallow, and 10% liquid shea oil. This is amazing stuff - much less greasy/oily-feeling than my regular Body Balm (which I still love!), it soaks right in and really moisturizes. Tallow is great for skin, and is local, sustainable, and much more eco-friendly and ethical than many oils that contribute to deforestation, labor exploitation, etc. We render this ourselves, from our Highland steers - we try to respect the sacrifice our beautiful heritage cattle have made to feed and aid us, and use all that we can from the animals. (We also tan the hides and clean the skulls and horns as striking wall decorations). I only use natural essential oils in these salves, an artificial chemical fragrance seems out of place in a minimalist, all-natural salve! Rather than maintaining a stock of these in multiple fragrances, I will make this to order, so choose the essential oil blend you would like from the list and include a note to the grower at checkout with your selection. If you’re not sure or aren’t picky, just tell me if it’s for a male or female recipient, I’ll choose something appropriate. Currently Available: Lavender Yling-Ylang & Lavender Ginger, Lime & Lavender Eucalyptus Mint Grapefruit Rosemary-Bergamot Cedar, Lavender & Frankincense Cedar & Sage These salves come in a 1.5 oz metal tin with a lid.

Harness nature's healing properties with this vitamins and fatty acid rich salve. Dosage: Scratch no more. Apply me to your skin irritation gently and thinly after it's clean. Another salve to fill your healing arsenal, Oasis, A Skin Quenching Relief Salve. As we begin to approach the arrival of Summer, we seek to be outside more and more. When the desire to scratch that itch, please grab for the salve instead. Make sure the area is clean prior to application. A thin layer will do and reapply until much better." There is a slew of products currently on the market advertising that they help with ‘pain this’ or ‘anti-inflammatory that’, but I am here to tell you the proof is in the ingredients with Oasis. Turmeric, Barberry, and Quercetin are blended together perfectly to offer the relief your body needs through known anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant therapeutic actions while also reducing redness and that annoying itchy sensation. The beautiful blend of base oils is what really holds this salve together with a wide array of Fatty Acids, including alpha-linolenic acid, which acts as a neuroprotectant. I love this product because it encourages the Herbalists’ view and understanding that less is actually more. We can see this by the simple blend of natural ingredients that make up Oasis. ZAO Organics understands the process of natural synergy and has formulated a beautifully working product that penetrates deep into the skin, providing each dermal layer with nourishment and relief. I highly recommend this product to anyone experiencing eczema, psoriasis, tinea, joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, varicose veins, and general issues involving pain and inflammation. - Rachael Dipple Certified Herbologist Holistic Health Practitioner

I love this scent - smoky, but a bit sweet. Bergamot essential oil is a dark, spicy citrus smell, like orange peel rather than orange juice, and it pairs beautifully with the smoky dark scent of cedarwood essential oil to make a great fragrance for men, as well as women. Why use a shampoo bar? Partly to avoid all those disturbing ingredients in commercial shampoo! Then wouldn’t any nice, handmade bar soap work? Well, I’ve tried it, with my own goat milk soap, and it was not what I wanted! Hair, and even more importantly our scalp, needs ultra-moisturizing treatment, and this bar is specially made to do that. Hair gets oily because we wash off all our natural oils, prompting the scalp to make more. But that makes our hair oily, so we wash it again, further stripping our scalp of natural protective oils... And because we’re stripping everything off our hair - and scalp - we need a conditioner to make it soft and smooth and healthy (everything the natural oils were trying to do, incidentally). Then, since we used a heavy conditioner, our hair is weighed-down and needs washing... Or, we can both clean and condition with a natural soap that gets out dirt and oils but doesn’t strip our hair, and simultaneously conditions it - and our scalp - with the naturally-occurring glycerin, as well as the goat milk and vitamin-rich egg yolks. Treating the scalp well is so important to healthy hair - if your skin is nourished and moisturized, it doesn’t need to produce more oils, and so your hair actually stays clean longer, and the whole cycle is healthier for hair and skin! This luxurious bar soap contains moisturizing olive, avocado and almond oils, and lots of castor oil which is great for hair, and local lard from pastured, non-GMO-fed pigs from Cove Creek Farm, hand-rendered here at Solace Farm, to give the shampoo stability and firmness. I also use my goats milk and some of my duck egg yolks for even more moisturizing. This bar doubles as a spectacular facial cleanser, in addition to being an amazingly conditioning shampoo, definitely the most moisturizing soap I've ever made. When using as shampoo, follow with an apple cider vinegar rinse (I use a small spritzer bottle) if you have harder water, and if you have soft water you probably don’t need anything, and there's no need for conditioner, although I sometimes use a teeny bit of diluted commercial organic conditioner as a leave-in detangler for my kids hair. Since I started making and using bar shampoo 10 years ago, this is all I use and I love it! Scented with only natural essential oils of Cedar & Frankincense, with Lavender and Patchouli. Molded bars are 4 oz, complete ingredients also on label, packaged in a windowed brown paperboard box.

Scented with only natural essential oils. Molded bars are 3.5+ oz, packaged in a brown kraft box with a round window, complete ingredients also on label.

Simple, yet classic, pure lavender essential oil. NOTE: This shampoo bar uses local non-GMO lard from Pig Mountain farm, and I have just started making it with local grass-fed beef tallow from Dayspring Farm as well - the tallow results in a slightly harder bar that will last longer in your shower! I do have a vegetarian bar available as well, in a separate listing. Why use a shampoo bar? Partly to avoid all those disturbing ingredients in commercial shampoo! This is one of my favorite scents, and an unusual one - I love the licorice scent of Anise, but have never been fond of Patchouli. It turns out that, when blended with plenty of Lavender essential oil, they come together beautifully to make a spicy, sweet, herbal scent great for both men and women.
